Weekly Briefing #2
This week was pretty poor on good materials for me or at least I haven’t found many so I just have two that worth to mention.
Leonard Susskind on The World As Hologram
Pretty trippy talk about principles of modern physics. Leonard is a professor at Stanford university and tries to explain those principles and concepts so an average person can understand it.
From what I understood it’s basically possible that we are living in a black whole which itself in an another black whole and so on creating a multiverse. But at the same time we are just bits of information on the event horizon of our black whole which is somewhat similar to how holograms are created.

RAISR Sharp Images with Machine Learning

I was thinking about the similar idea a while ago and interesting enough Yaniv Romano, John Isidoro, and Peyman Milanfar from Google did it! They took a lot of high resolution images, downscale it and trained a neural network on those low resolution images to upscale them. I think many of researches did it but in RAISR’s case they actually launched it in production for Google+ Android application claiming to save 75% of bandwidth which is huge!
